Stringless Kite

Marriage is like flying a kite,
one the kite and one the string,
one to soar on loves thermals,
one to do the practical things;

The string must be loose enough
for the kite to dive free
yet taught against the dangers
of tangling in life’s trees;

I thought I could fly without string,
I thought I could survive in the clouds,
but a kite without string
and the trust that binds
is destined to remain on the ground.
