The last time

Eyes closed for all the world to see
and to see all that is to come,
at fingertip distance we will stand
while the world around us runs;
for this is the last time
we are two halves,
the last time we will never touch,
let us linger in the last millimetre
before we kiss
and share our first breath
as one.

This is my attempt at poetry for National Poetry Day here in England. A day to celebrate the love of language, not only the language of love.
