Inspiration finds me in many forms. I am a naturally nosey sod I like listening to other people’s conversations which is tricky because I hate using public transport. The women are so hard they have tattoos on their teeth and the men are constantly looking for their missing chromosome. I do like staring at things, especially trees. I like to visit the same place in different seasons to get a different perspective.

Tony Hancock I cannot help but bring myself to smile at the work of Mr Hancock, he constant railing against the world, his typical quintessential British sardonic, sarcastic humour still ties me in stitches. His radio shows and his TV shows are both firmly fixed on my weekly playlist. He was a troubled man in his private life as as I did not know him personally I have no comment to make on the matter.

Peter Sellers What is not to like about Peter Sellers? Answers on a grain of sand please to my blog. Apart from being the main header picture on my blog, his depiction of Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther films reduce me to tears of joy every time I watch them.

Tommy Cooper I even laughed just looking for a picture of him on the internet, he had such a presence, most of act consisted of him waiting for the audience to stop laughing just because he had walked on stage. If you say four words to me at any time of the day or night I will smile “Jar – Spoon – spoon – Jar”. His jokes are legendary and there are too many to list but one of my many favourites is “I’m on a whiskey diet, I lost three days last week” I am laughing as I type.

Jazz I like Jazz especially John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk to name a few. There is nothing like editing poems around midnight, jazz playing, smoking cigars and drinking Japanese whiskey.

Ian Curtis / Punk I also enjoy the music of my youth, Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen, Buzzcocks, Dead Kennedys, Velvet Underground and of course The Smiths.

Sir Norman Foster A true visionary, his own life long friendship with Buckminster Fuller the American designer produced some of the greatest architecture to grace this planet. If anything I would aspire to write a poem as beautiful as one of his projects.

The Obtuse I find great delight in the funny and the unusual things that surround us. I believe if you slow down you see more.

Trees. Trees in Autumn. The death of summer, long winter nights approaching, the fading light, the smell, the turning of the colours. Possibly the most beautiful plant on this planet.

Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes. Possibly the two greatest influences on my writing career. I have read a lot of poetry but when a writer speaks to you on a level you can actually feel on the back of your neck you know this is the writer for you.
